Event Details

Join Virginia Opera (www.vaopera.org) at the Austrian Embassy for a MOSTLY MOZART musical program that includes music of the two celebrated Strausses, as well as Mozart.  Virginia Opera’s Artistic Director Peter Mark introduces the company's principal artists (from its February 26 and 28 production of DON GIOVANNI at George Mason University's Center for the Arts) in a sparkling program that includes arias and ensembles from Mozart’s THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO, COSÌ FAN TUTTE, DON GIOVANNI and THE MAGIC FLUTE, along with selections from Johann Strauss’ DIE FLEDERMAUS and Richard Strauss’ DIE SCHWEIGSAME FRAU, ARIADNE AUF NAXOS and the famous trio from DER ROSENKAVALIER.

The cast includes:  Christina Nassif, who made her Washington National Opera debut last May, bringing her bold soprano and fiery temperament to the role of Vitellia in Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito; Sarah Jane McMahon who was selected by Maestro Placido Domingo to join the Los Angeles Opera and also recently made her debut at the Wiener Konzert Haus in the concert production of Candide; Mathew Worth who recently collaborated with conductors Lorin Maazel and James Levine, and whose voice the New York Times describes as “fully powered and persuasively expressive”; and many other superbly talented young artists.
